Beads and jewelry-making Glossary

If you're just beading and jewelry making, you're bound to find some confused words. Here's a quick glossary to help you understand the concept of "head of Pine and find the definition of" discovery .

Pearl Cap

It is a type of interlayer metal pearl. It is a form of semi-sphere along the curve of another pearl (thus "capping" of the pearl).

Bugle Beads

Long, thin, tube-shaped beads. They range from slightly less than millimeter to several millimeters in diameter, and a few millimeters to several centimeters in length.

Skip bucket

A piece that attaches to the loop at the end of a bracelet or necklace. Composed of two half-spheres, Clam shell as it is used to cover crimp beads at the end of a piece of jewelry.

Clasp

The part of a necklace or bracelet that opens and closes so that the jewelry can be set on and off. There are several types of clasps, such as barrel clasps, lobster claw clasps, magnetic clasps, hook and eye clips, spring clips, clasps and toggles.

Crimp Beads

A metal bead that can be "crimped" and held in place on a piece nylon coated wire. This is done by crushing it with a pair of pliers. Crimp Beads are used to contain other beads up on the wire.

Dichroic Glass Beads

A type of pearl torch with a thin layer of metal on its surface, allowing it to change color because it reflects light.

Find

This is the generic name for supplies that hold jewelry together such as staples, shells or jumprings.

Head pin

A thin metal rod with a flat bottom. Beads can be strung on the spindle, the top which can then be looped and attached to a hook earring, necklace or other piece of jewelry.

Jumpring

A metal ring that can be opened and closed and is used to connect various elements in jewelry.

Pearls Lampwork

A beaded glass using a gas torch. The torch is used to melt the glass, which is then wrapped on a metal rod. The details are then added by using different colors of glass.

Pearls Millefiori

Very patterned glass beads made by melting glass rods of many together. This set of glass is then cut to produce beads with a mosaic pattern. The term "millefiori" is Italian, which means "thousand flowers".

Spacer Metal Beads

They are decorative metal beads are usually strung between the bigger beads. They are often thin and flat but they come in a variety of widths, diameters and shapes. They are usually silver, but they also come in gold, bronze and black.

Nylon Coated Wire

A material for stringing beads formed multiple strands of Stainless Steel wire covered with a thin layer of nylon. It is also known by the brand name of Tigertail. More expensive grades can be flexible all made with 49 strands of wire, while the base grade is composed of seven strands.

Pearls

Very tiny glass beads, usually measuring about 1 millimeter to several millimeters in diameter. They can be used for detailed work in embroidery or may simply be strung on a necklace.
